We now have a facebook page.
Fassnidge Bowls Club was founded in 1929 by local councillors and business people and is situated in Fassnidge Memorial Park, Uxbridge. Uxbridge being in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
The cost of providing the Green and Pavilion was met by our first President, Mrs. Kate Fassnidge who, indeed, had already given the Park in memory of her late husband to the people of Uxbridge for their 'quiet recreation'.
The 5th May 1929 edition of The Advertiser and Gazette reported the opening of the club thus;
"The bowling green at the Recreation ground was officially opened for the season on Wednesday evening with a match: Members versus Uxbridge Councillors. There was a large gathering of members and friends to witness the match which was started by Mrs. Fassnidge sending down the first jack and bowling the first wood . . . . The club certainly made a good start, for they won on every rink and scored 70 points to the Council's 44".
As with all Bowls Clubs at that time, Fassnidge Bowls Club was a 'men only' club but as time went by, more and more ladies took an interest in the game. About 20 years ago, Fassnidge Bowls Club became a fully mixed club and, as such, has continued to thrive.
The interior of the original clubhouse was completely renovated by the members in 1993 and since then many other improvements have been made, floodlighting was installed and was switched on for the first time by Club Secretary Angela on the 20th May 2004. New changing rooms were added in 2006 and the club green was re-laid in 2009 (requiring all our club matches for that season to be played away at Cowley Bowls Club).
The Club is affiliated to the English Bowling Association, English Womens Bowling Association, Middlesex County Bowling Association and Middlesex County Womens Bowling Association. In addition Fassnidge form part of the Chiltern and Thames Association of Mixed Bowls Clubs (a triples league) plus the Three Counties League of Mixed Bowls Clubs (rinks).
Many of our club membership enter outside competitions so you may run up against them in National, Middlesex, and other competitions.
